What to wear to a festival?

I'm going to a summer festival/carnival with my friend tomorrow and I don't really know what to wear. I'm not that fashionable, I usually just wear shorts and a t shirt (I don't really own summer dresses/skirts). What colours or patterns or clothing could I wear that would be suitable?
