Are Keds comfortable to walk in?

I am going to Germany for a year and I would like to have comfortable shoes to walk day to day life in (town of 12,000 population) Should I get keds? or toms? I want to not wear sneakers and look slightly fashionable,,, also I wear skinny jeans a lot and want them to look good. Suggestions? Danke!
